Smisby St. James was, we think, founded by the canons of Repton Priory, and there has been a church here since the 12th century at least.  The oldest part of the church is the South Aisle which is used as the Lady Chapel.  The parish has changed benefices over the years and we are currently part of the United Benefice of Melbourne, Smisby, Stanton by Bridge and Ticknall.  The Rector is the Revd. Steve Short and he is based in Melbourne - 01332 864741.

We are a Book of Common Prayer church though we have an occasional informal services.

Our normal pattern of worship is:

1st Sunday   - Holy Communion at 5.30 p.m.

2nd Sunday - Evensong at 5.30 p.m.

3rd Sunday -  Evensong at 5.30 p.m.

4th Sunday -   Evensong at 5.30 p.m.

5th Sunday -   Eucharist at Melbourne Parish Church at 10.30 a.m.

Details of service times are given in the Parish Magazine and on the Parish website.

The Parish Office will be able to put you in touch with the relevant person in Smisby Church to deal with your enquiry.
